Limbo Review

Introduction
Limbo has finally been ported to PC via steam after a year of being on XBLA. The independent 2D "trial and death" game is about a boy looking for his sister, and he must solve puzzles and avoid traps along the way. The game's visuals are very dark and shadowy, giving the feel of old horror movies. This game is artwork... So, is it any good?

The Review
Oh, yes it is! The dark and shadowy visuals are creepy and the animations are smooth. The sound effects are eerie, and the music fits well with your onscreen actions (even though most of the time there is no music!) The puzzles in this game are interesting and varied, and avoid repetition. Even though most of the gameplay is based around a "trial and death" mechanic, it somehow avoids being too frustrating. The game has some great replay value as well, with trophies, and achievements, and some other surprises, which I won't spoil!

The game has some problems, but they can very easily be overlooked. The game itself is pretty short, and can be completed in a few hours. but the game is good enough and there is enough replay value that that doesn't matter much anyway. Most game critics seemed to pick up on this one: the ending is very abrupt. This is very hard to explain without spoiling anything, but let's just say it felt like a cliffhanger, and that they were setting up for a sequel.

Highlights
The Good: The visuals are smooth and creepy, the sound adds to the mood, varied and interesting puzzles, the game is never frustrating, and there is some great replay value.

The Bad: The game is on the short side, and has a abrupt ending.

The Result: I give it 4.5 out of 5.

  1. The first time I saw and decided to start play it, it's just nothing clear. All dark and no opening story but the flow just amazing. All the Gameplay, puzzle design, and the composition between environment and sound effect made this game at the amazing rate
