Dead Island

Genre: Openworld Action RPG  Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360

A long delayed, openworld zombie slasher Action RPG is here. Was it worth the wait?

Introduction
This week, I was stuck on choosing the right game to review. I was choosing between Dead Island, Driver: San Fransisco, and Resistance 3. I decided I was most interested in playing Dead Island, as it was unique in a way (and it was announced six years ago!) It really is unique. The game is a openworld action RPG/adventure hybrid thingy, with zombies and vechicular combat thrown in, so it must be awesome right?!

The game involves four character's escape from a island resort filled with zombies, so the story isn't particularly complex. The gameplay however, is. Think of it as Fallout 3 with zombies. The game also has a multiplayer mode, but I sadly never got to play it. So, was it worth the wait? Read on to find out...

The Review
I would say it is! This game gives you huge value for your money, as you play through all the quests, explore the Island and play the multiplayer a bit, you could end up spending a very long time. The game also has pretty good variety, as you engage in conversation, level up and more. You don't just endlessly cut the heads off of zombies.

The setting of the game is huge and full of quests, and very unique as well. The game really excels in sound for the most part, as this game brings the level of immersion way up. You can hear zombie moans before you encounter them, or hear the swaying of the Palm trees. The zombie voice acting is good, but the human voice acting isn't quite up to par. Overall, the game is pretty darn fun, as you hack zombies, explore and meet survivors.

The first thing I noticed about this game is how annoying some of the characters can be. Some of the time, you want to stab them in the head. While a lot of the enviroments look lush and beautiful, there is also some visual issues, like stiff cutscenes, clipping and texture flicker. The story is a little on the flat side, but I wouldn't play this game for the story, but for the zombie action. You owe it to yourself to play this game, as long as you are old enough.

Highlights
The Good: Huge value for your money, fairly good variety, unique openworld setting, good sound and voice acting, and the game is pretty darn fun.

The Bad: Some characters can be annoying, there are some visual issues, and the story is a little on the flat side.

The Result: I give it 4 out of 5.
