Resistance 3 Review

Genre: FPS  Platform: PS3

The final battle against the Chimera erupts, and only you can save the world. Is the game worth it?

This week I decided to play Resistance 3. (Gears of War 3 will be reviewed next week.) The game is a FPS game, and the last in the Sci-fi series, mainly focusing on the final battle against the Chimera. The gameplay is very similar to the other games in the series. The game supports 3D (Sony really pushes that fucking 3D!) and Playstation Move (Fucking motion controls!) There is lots of co-op and online multiplayer modes and a singleplayer campaign. Luckily I got some friends together this time to play the multiplayer with me time so I can review it. So, is the game any good?

The Review
Luckily for this game, the good seriously outweighs the bad. The last game in the series still has the awesome combination of sci-fi and modern day weaponry. The audio in general is really good. The guns sound great, as do the explosions. The music really revs you up to blow guys up. Surprisingly, the voice acting is okay as well, which surprised me because most shooters just choose someone that will do the work for cheap. These sound like real actors! The enviromental design in this game is fantastic as well, and really shows what an alien invasion would look like.

The campaign is nonstop excitement thanks to the challenging gameplay and the good story. (Just don't expect it to win an oscar!) The multiplayer is great as well, and I love shooting guys in the face. Especially my friends. (In the game I mean!) I know that this game's multiplayer will really have the PSN servers busy won't it? Overall though, the game's visual design is amazing, even though it is still has the shooter colors of grey and black and light brown.

Unfortunately, even a game as good as Resistance 3 has it's problems. The first major point is the fact that, while the campaign is cool and exciting, the pacing is weird. One minute you are fighting one Chimera, and then the next minute you are fighting thirteen, while running from alien ships. Those sudden jumps in difficulty are pretty awkward. The other problem is, while R3's multiplayer is great, there are some quips like, no matchmaking for co-op and awkward battle endings. Overall though, this game is a must have for PS3 gamers who are old enough to play it.

Highlights
The Good: Awesome weapons, great audio, amazing and detailed environment design, the campaign is exciting and a good challenge, there is an alright story, great multiplayer and the game has an outstanding visual design.

The Bad: Uneven pacing, and some multiplayer quips can be annoying.

The Result: I give it 4.5 out of 5.
