Call of Juarez: The Cartel Review

Introduction
Today I will review another FPS game, Call of Juarez: The Cartel. This game is part of a series of western type games, but this game is set in the present, in modern day Los Angeles as you take on a role as law enforcement agents. Lame. This game isn't set in the Wild West. This is set in the current West! Oh, and there is a few multiplayer modes in there as well including one where you can play 3-player cooperative play. At least there is no motion controls...

The Review
This game could have used a lot more polish. Sigh. The music in this game is great, and really helps with the "Wild West" atmosphere the series is known for. The game can be fun if you ignore all the problems, but that can be a challenging task in itself. Since there is some awful multiplayer and you can play as 3 playable characters to change the end of the story, there is a tiny amount of replay value here.

Um.... The guy in the middle looks like he is from the 1800's and everyone else is modern...
The story is really bad and predictable, and the characters are so unlikeable as well. The story is what made a lot of people like the other games in the series in the first place. The graphics make the game look like it is being played on the PS2 or something and there are some frame rate issues. The voice acting is humorously bad and even in the more serious parts of the game, I laughed at the dialogue. The FPS gameplay is actually not that bad itself, but the game keeps throwing the same repetitive stuff over and over at you that you can pretty much guess what will happen next. All the multiplayer modes have their own set of problems. In co-op, you can only play levels all the players have reached, which can be annoying, and the other multiplayer modes are just not very innovative for the most part.

None of the characters are likeable.
Highlights
The Good: Great music, the game can be fun, and there is a tiny bit of replay value.

The Bad: Bad story, dated graphics, almost humorous voice acting, repetitive gameplay and the multiplayer is flawed.

The Result: I give it 2.5 out of 5.
