Nintendo 3DS Review

Introduction
I know this review is a few months late, but since the 3DS's sales were not amazing, maybe some of you reading this haven't bought it yet. Hopefully... Eh, whatever. I am bored. The 3DS is Nintendo's latest handheld gaming console, that can play games in 3D, although you can switch the 3D effect off. There is the ability to play some augmented-reality games too, and there are some other features like making Miis as well but it is fairly similar to the DSi for the most part. It has an eShop, where you can download games, some are old, some are new. So, is it any good? You may already know.

The Review
The 3DS is a pretty good handheld overall. There are some neat sounding games coming out for it soon, like Mario Kart and a new Super Mario game, so you have something to look forward to. The 3D effect is very neat, and the resoulution on the 3DS is higher than Nintendo's other handhelds. The AR feature can be pretty fun to play around with too, even if the games are fairly simple. (Gotta love Face Raiders!) Nintendo was also smart enough to make the layout fairly similar to the DSi and DS Lite so you do not have to adjust too much to the new handheld's controls.

There are some issues though. Even though the price will slowly go down, the $250 starting price is a little high. The 3D feature annoys me a bit though, as you have to hold it in the perfect position the whole time, and that can be a problem with handheld devices. The handheld has a poor battery life as well, so expect to charge a lot. The other problem that really effected the 3DS's sales was the fact that the launch titles were weak. You can't launch a Nintendo console without Mario or Legend of Zelda.

Highlights
The Good: It has some cool sounding games coming out soon, the 3D effect is very neat, the AR feature can be pretty fun to play with, and the layout is similar to the DS Lite and the DSi.

The Bad: The price is too high, the 3D feature is finicky, it has poor battery life and the launch titles were weak.

The Result: I give it 3.5 out of 5.

The 3DS is a pretty good handheld overall.
