You may have heard of Terraria. You may have heard a lot of things about it. You may have heard about it being a shameless Minecraft clone. (That is not the truth!) You may have heard of it being one of the most popular games on Steam in the last few weeks. You may have heard of it being an indie game. Well, most of those ideas are true. This game is just as innovative as Minecraft. This game is in 2D, sort of like platformers from the '90s. It blends Minecraft like building and crafting, seamlessly with RPG elements, action adventure and platforming. So, is it as great as I make it sound?
The Review
Just to clarify, Terraria is a good game indeed. There is a lot of stuff to build and do. Use your imagination! You can make any house/fort/castle you want! The game gives you lots to do as well. You should not get bored anytime soon. There is a lot of customization in this game too. You can change you character's looks. The price is of course, good. 10$ for all of this content is definitely worth the money. The art style of this game is cute, and will remind veteran gamers like me of the 16-bit days. Sigh.... This game can suck you in. You may find out you just spent all night building your house, and you were too "into" it to realize. Terraria, like Minecraft, also has a random world generator so every game is different. The worlds it generates are huge, and a joy to explore.
There is lots to build and do here. |
Watch out for monsters after sunset! |
The Good: Lots to build and do, great price, cute art style, it really sucks you in, and it has lots of areas to explore.
The Bad: The starting tutorial is not very helpful, AI can be annoying and co-op is not very simple to set up.
The Result: I give it 4.5 out of 5.
