Chances are, if you ever played video games at all, you have heard of Rockstar's new game, L.A. Noire. It is a crime drama set in, well, L.A. This amazing post-war world tells the story of the troubled cop in the old noir style of films. Mixing action and puzzles, this game is a long step away from some of Rockstars's other titles, but it stands out in a good way.
The Review
This game has it's dumb moments, but it hits the high note most of the time. The post-war city of L.A. is amazingly detailed, like the developers made the game in L.A. or something. (Maybe they did...) The action sequences, whether you are in a car or on foot, are quite fun. The game is just as beautiful as the city it is set in, and it only helps make the city even more amazing to explore. The motion capture makes investigating all the more unique, where you have to follow every suspect's face movement. The amazing voice acting helps add to this, as you must listen to the suspect's tone of voice too. This game does not have any cardboard cut-out characters in it. As I have been elaborating on, the investigations can be quite fun as well. Lastly, the story is well crafted. While this cop may be kind of self-centered, you care for him anyway. He has character flaws, which make him more believable.
Motion Capture can be scary! |
Highlights
The Good: Amazing and authentic post-war L.A., fun action sequences, great graphics, good motion capture and voice acting, good noir style story and the investigations can be quite fun too.
The Bad: Some fights are too restricted and you can have some awkward conversations with passer-by.
Result: I give it 4.5 out of 5.
The cop has some flaws of character. |
